Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital (GSRH) engaged FCA to develop a new replacement facility on a 45-acre site in Center Valley, PA, and repurpose their current location in downtown Allentown. FCA envisioned the 46-acre campus as a community destination with phased development to complement the Rehabilitation Hospital.
Good Shepherd wanted a space that was going to be inspirational and innovative, but still fitting with the community they serve. The new building was always conceptualized as being connected to nature and the environment to promote healing. The new 130,000SF, 75-bed facility significantly increases the capacity and capability of Good Shepherd.
Comfort and safety were central to the design. Patient flow was modeled to ensure a degree of separation between visitors and patient transfers, and the rooms feature beautiful views of nature and spacious layouts with design cues taken from spa and hospitality spaces.
