A vast organization driven to improve lives through Health, Science, and Education, Jefferson had, over the years, expanded into numerous locations that gradually coalesced into a sprawling urban campus, their departments dispersed in parceled suites buried deep within buildings, often lacking natural light. When the opportunity came to unify their campus into a single vertical community, FCA stepped up.
It was our task to create an environment that could thoughtfully transition their campus-based culture into this new fully integrated vertical community. Our design focused on the landmarks of a vertical connection with our Commons and Pavilion. These spaces were stacked and anchored on the eastern façade and highly visible from each entry point. As active social spaces with views of the river and suburbs beyond, they encourage vertical movement. This community emphasis was continued in the work areas, which feature ample open-area meeting spaces. The campus marks a new direction for Jefferson, one we deftly achieved amid the challenges of schedule and budget. It reaches always to the future.
