Paoli memorial asked FCA to generate a restructured strategic master plan for their maternity project that responded to the increased volumes as well as the availability of adjacent space. The plan, which has been implemented, required the expansion of post partum beds in response to increasing patient volumes and the creation of a NICU. The first phase, now implemented, has six bassinets; the ultimate build-out will accommodate twelve.
The strategic plan took advantage of core separation of elevator transit to shape family access patterns that accommodated the need for privacy of both new moms and NICU parents. The adjacent former OR suite was restructured for CS Suite volumes, including two CS suites for scheduled procedures and one available for emergent cases. The existing Well Baby Nursery was also restructured to accommodate an expansion and former LDRP rooms were refurbished as true LDR suites. With a focus on alleviating inappropriate pressure on LDR suites, the triangle spaces underwent expansion. In order to respond to the needs of both immediate and extended family needs, family spaces were restructured. FCA also provided cosmetic refurbishment of the entire expanded unit to establish a current aesthetic and shape a unit with a single vision.
