A three-story addition consisting of a replacement emergency department, entry lobby, outpatient services and plant engineering department was added to the campus in Philadelphia. The addition was an opportunity to improve the patient and visitor experience. The pavilion re-images the exterior face of the campus, improved site circulation, campus wayfinding and parking. The pavilion site was chosen because of size, location, proximity and access to both ‘Main’ street and the main hospital elevators for vertical access to supporting functions.
The Emergency department planning implemented the Rapid Assessment model that includes 44 total treatment bays, 16 triage, 26 treatment and 2 trauma bays. A separate ambulance and first responders’ entry with adjacent decontamination room, which is readily accessible and expandable from the exterior is included. A new Anatomical Pathology Lab was relocated to make way for the new emergency department addition. A new lobby entry with dedicated vehicle drop off, provides easy access to the hospital and adjacent medical office buildings.
